Weimar is located 87 miles west of Houston, 78 miles southeast of Austin and 110 miles east of San Antonio.

Straddling both Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 90, the city of Weimar is a relatively small central Texas town with a population of 2,203 within the city limits and a trade area population of close to 10,000 people. Although the mileage differs, the driving time to Austin, San Antonio, Victoria and Houston is almost equal. Within that driving range are over 3 million Texans.

Located on land of the original Austin Colony, Weimar was founded in 1873, when the railroad was built from Alleyton to San Antonio and was first settled by people from southern states. Later many Germans and Czech immigrants settled in this area. The city was incorporated in July 1875, and it became an early center with a cottonseed oil mill (believed to be the first in Texas) built about 1876. They gained fame for their baseball team, their sausage and as a center where farmers could buy the things they needed. Some kept their native tongues and bits of memorabilia, but they left Europe behind and became Texans for good.
